Poti played in 824 regular NHL games with four teams in his career; the
Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, New York Islanders and the Washington
Capitals. He amassed career totals of 69 goals and 258 assists for 327
regular season points. Poti also played in one NHL All-Star Game in 2003
and represented the United States in the Olympics in 2002.
"I was very fortunate to play in the National Hockey League for 14
years. It was a dream come true and I had an awesome ride and met so
many great people along the way," said Poti. "Id like to thank my family
and my wife and children for all their love and support."
Poti was drafted in the third round, 59th overall, in the 1996 NHL Entry
Draft by the Oilers. He debuted with the Oilers in October of 1998 and
he scored his first NHL goal against the Detroit Red Wings on November
18, 1998. In his rookie season, he led the Oilers in plus-minus (+10),
and scored 21 points in 73 games on his way to being named to the NHL
All-Rookie Team. In 2000-01, he recorded career high totals in games
played (81) and goals (12), while ranking second among Oilers defencemen
in points scored (32) for the second straight season. He helped the
Oilers reach the playoffs in each of his first three seasons.
Partway through the 2001-02 NHL season, Poti was traded to the Rangers.
He played the following three full seasons with the Rangers – including
the 2002-03 season when he scored a career high in points (48) and led
the team in assists (37). In 2003-04, he set a career high in
game-winning goals (5) which also led the team. Poti helped the Rangers
make the playoffs in 2005-06 while he also led the team in blocked shots
(123).
In July of 2006, Poti signed as a free agent with the Islanders. In his
only season on Long Island, Poti set a career high in assists (38) and
logged a personal best average ice-time per game (25:43) – most on the
team.
Poti moved on to the Washington Capitals in 2007, signing as a free
agent on July 1 and was a member of the Capitals organization for six
seasons. In his first season in Washington, he ranked second on the team
in average ice-time per game (23:29), blocked the most shots on the
Capitals (119) and scored the second most points among team defencemen
(29). In 2008-09, Poti averaged the most shorthanded ice-time per game
on the Capitals (4:22) – fifth most in the league – and he scored seven
points in 14 playoff games. In 2009-10, he recorded a career high in
plus-minus (+26) – ranking fifth among NHL defencemen. Potis 2010-11
season was cut short by injury after just 21 games, the same injury
which forced him to miss the entire 2011-12 season. In the owners
lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, he played 16 games in his final season
before his year ended due to injury.
Poti also served as an NHLPA player representative in 2006 as a member
of the Rangers.

CEO Steve Koonin on Tuesday told the Hawks flagship radio station that
he made the decision to discipline Ferry but allowed him to keep his job
managing the team. He did not say what the punishment was, but noted
that he relied on a law firms three-month investigation of Ferry and him
describing Deng as someone who has a little African in him.

The Kelowna, B.C. rink made the announcement on their facebook page on
Thursday night.PHILADELPHIA -- Every year, Phillies starting pitchers
have a hitting competition amongst themselves in which points are
awarded for each players production at the plate.
Cliff Lee, who said hes never won before, may be on his way to his first
title after his latest performance.
Lee had three hits, knocked in a career-high four runs and struck out a
season-high 14 to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 12-2 win over the
Miami Marlins on Monday.
"I think I just took the lead," Lee said.
Lee (14-6) stroked a two-run, bases-loaded single to cap off a six-run
third inning and also hit his first career triple in the fifth. Chase
Utley, who also drove in four runs, hit a long three-run homer in the
third.
"I prefer to hit and then trot the bases," Lee joked. "I try to do
everything I can to help the team win and take it all serious."
On the mound, Lee allowed two runs while scattering eight hits and
walking none, at one point retiring 11 straight en route to winning his
fourth consecutive decision. The left-handers 14 strikeouts marked his
fourth double-digit strikeout game this year.
"Just being ahead in the count, pounding the strike zone, I had a lot of
two strike counts," Lee said. "Im really not trying to strike guys out
in that situation to be honest with you. Im just continuing to try to
throw strikes, and thats what happens when you throw strikes."
Lee is 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA in his last six starts and 5-1 with a 2.29
lifetime ERA against Miami. Hes also a career .391 hitter against the
Marlins.
"He knows how to pitch, moves the ball in and out," Marlins manager Mike
Redmond said. "He got some runs early, so he could be more aggressive.
... He can hit (too). He give you good at-bats."
Philadelphia has won six in a row over Miami.
In his first major-league start, Sam Dyson (0-1) allowed seven runs on
six hits and three walks while striking out only one. He struggled to
find control, with just 34 of 63 pitches going for strikes.
"Up until today hes done a nice job in the bullpen," Reddmond said.
San Antonio Spurs Pro Shop.
"Hell bounce back and be ready for his next opportunity."
Utley got the Phillies started with an RBI groundout in the first. His
17th homer in the third gave them a four-run lead.
"He had a little bit of a dry spell as far as home runs, but hes taking
good swings," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. "He crushed that
ball. Its all good signs of what hes doing."
Later in the frame, Cody Asche drove in a run with a single to right
field. Giancarlo Stantons throw home was on the mark, but Marlins
catcher Jeff Mathis couldnt handle it before being barrelled over by
Domonic Brown.
After Roger Bernadina drew a walk to load the bases, Lee singled to
score two more and chase Dyson from the game. In all, 11 Phillies went
to the plate in the inning.
"He couldnt have been more happy about his hitting," Sandberg said of
Lee. "He hustles to first base on bunts, he plays the game hard along
with a quick tempo in his delivery, getting the pitch and throwing it.
He really sets a good tone."
Darin Ruf hit a two-run homer, his 14th of the season, in the sixth. He
finished with two hits and three runs scored.
The Marlins first run came in the fifth inning, when Adeiny Hechavarria
singled to bring home Justin Ruggiano, who doubled. Ruggiano also had an
RBI double in the sixth.
Christian Yelich, Stanton and Mathis each struck out three times.
The loss was Miamis ninth in 11 games.
NOTES: In their last 29 games against the Marlins, the Phillies are
22-7. ... Lee passed the 200-innings threshold for the sixth straight
season, the fourth-longest active streak in the majors. He also reached
200 strikeouts for the third consecutive year. ... Dyson became the 12th
different starting pitcher used by the Marlins this season, tied for
most in the National League with the Mets and Pirates. ... The Phillies
on Monday announced Carlos Arroyo as the teams new Minor League Pitching
Coordinator. ... Tuesday, Roy Halladay (3-4, 7.28) starts for the
Phillies, while Brian Flynn (0-1, 10.13) goes for the Marlins.
